In the summer of 2012, Beyoncé Knowles leapt into the air in front of Prada Marfa. The photograph of the pop musician, suspended and spread-eagled at the renowned and often photographed art site, is one of many recent images that presented Marfa and the far west Texas region to a global, mainstream audience.
US. Route 90 directs thousands of travelers along the nation’s southern border and in front of Prada Marfa each day. The following photographs are part of a documentary project capturing the view looking out from Prada Marfa’s storefront, where I spent a week in the summer of 2013 watching the highway, the Chihuahuan Desert, and the people who stop here.
